Project Focus
Leading the strategic market entry of a new premium offering. This included validating the market opportunity, optimizing product development, and designing a roadmap for international expansion.
What we aimed to solve
To bridge the gap between high-level innovation and market readiness. We aimed to validate the commercial relevance of a new niche product and provide the structured framework needed to compete in a crowded global category.
The Context
Amidst a global shift toward "mindful indulgence," the challenge was to position a new Lebanese product to compete with established brands while navigating rising input costs and complex international entry requirements.
The Strategy
A dual-path strategy targeting affluent, health-conscious parents and existing brand loyalists. We positioned the product as a leader in "Mediterranean mindful living," merging high-end indulgence with functional health benefits.
The Process
The project was implemented through a rigorous three-pillar methodology:
• Market research: conducted a combination of primary research, including field visits, stakeholder interviews, quantitative surveys (n=100), and product tasting sessions, and secondary desk research.
• Strategy documentation: developed a comprehensive product-development roadmap, a brand-positioning framework, and a detailed plan identifying target markets and entry modes.
• Go-to-market implementation: created an action plan for launch phases (pilot runs, distribution and promotional events), resource allocation, and a full budget and timeline breakdown.
Evidence of Impact
• Market validation: confirmed market relevance and identified specific opportunities through direct consumer feedback and industry stakeholder analysis.
• Operational readiness: secured a manageable framework for production, safeguarding recipe confidentiality while ensuring quality control for the scale-up phase.
• Strategic positioning: developed a brand identity and lifestyle-driven narrative designed to position the product as a premium leader in the healthy indulgent category upon launch.
• Market roadmap: provided a clear pathway to local markets, supported by a communication strategy designed to foster emotional connections with discerning audiences.
Extension
I first began working with Darmmess in 2021 during my role as a Senior SME, Business & Private Sector Development Expert for DAI Global Austria GmbH & Co KG, under the EuropeAid Technical Assistance Facility for the Lebanese Private Sector program. We stayed in touch afterward as we continued providing consultancy services, which ultimately led her to invite us to collaborate on this project in 2024.
